Spyros (Spike) Gavris is President of Foodmark. He
founded the company with his son, Lee Gavris, in 1981. He is directly
responsible for Foodmark's aggressive entrance into private label
sales on both a regional and national basis. Spike spent twenty-five
years with Stop & Shop, New England's largest retailer, managing
all aspects of the supermarket business, including procurement,
retail operations, and store design. During his tenure at Stop & Shop,
Spike held the positions of Vice-President and General Manager-Boston
Division, Vice-President, Meat Operations, and Vice-President and
General Sales Manager (MA/RI and CT/NY divisions).
During the firm’s early years, Spike’s
efforts were directed towards regional representation of manufacturers
providing products within emerging private label categories. Products
included high-end cookies and confectionary items, refrigerated
and frozen pizza, ice cream and pet food. Spike’s success
within these categories led manufacturers to seek national relationships
with Foodmark. Services expanded to include category assessment,
brand development and sales management for retail sales across
the U.S. To provide the services desired by clients, Spike and
Lee assembled an experienced group of sales professionals to cover
the country and reach all major accounts. By 1995, Foodmark had
successfully established its position as a company capable of providing
a turnkey solution to manufacturers looking to outsource marketing
and sales activities for retail products.
Currently, Spike is engaged in new product development
and marketing strategy for ongoing product lines. His efforts are
directed at both the company’s proprietary products and those
of the company’s clients.
